A literary and musical composition based on “Chertogon” ("CHASING THE DEVIL", 1879) by Nikolai Semenovich Leskov, who is "called the most Russian from all Russian writers".
This one-man show uses works of Bach, Beethoven, Handel, Offenbach, Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff and others, as well as gipsy and Russian folk songs, and the poetry of Fyodor Tyutchev and Sergey Gevorgyan. The play was launched in Russia in 2009 and had already been successfully staged in London and Cambridge. The troupe for the first time is visiting Oxford with the performance.

The play is performed and directed by the Vladimir Ivanov -- musician, actor and singer of folk songs. He also directs well known in Russia ensembles "Russkaya Musica" and "Kazachiy Krug". Vladimir has recorded a number of audio albums and CDs, has organised and participated in numerous festivals, concerts, music shows, television and radio programmes and master classes all over the world. Interestingly, Vladimir is a graduate of the Moscow Physics and Technology Institute, and has a PhD in Physics.

The play is in Russian, but English subtitles are available for your convenience.
The play lasts about 1h 15 min.
